Have you ever heard the saying, “It takes 21 days to make a habit”? It is from this rule of thumb that the Silver Star Brands found their inspiration for the latest corporate wellness event, The 21 Day Soda Challenge!
According to the USDA, the average 12 fl oz soda has over 39 grams of sugar; more than what one should be consuming in a single day. Multiply this by two or even three sodas, and we have a serious problem on our hands!
Beginning on January 23rd, 2017 the Silver Star Brands wellness committee presented a challenge to our employees. The challenge was for employees to cut out all soda from their diet for 21 days in order to either break their soda consuming habit, or at least begin the steps of reducing it. Even small changes can make a BIG difference to your health!
Any employees who felt that not only did they need to cut down on sugar but they needed to cut down on caffeine received a special offer! Caffeine has been found to be addictive to the brain, as it stimulates the nervous system and one can begin to have a physical dependence on this daily “jolt” of energy. To combat this, if an employee was willing to cut out all forms of caffeine (soda, coffee, tea, etc.) they would receive a free sample of the Silver Star Brands owned product Native Remedies CaffAddict™ to reduce their caffeine withdrawal symptoms during the three week challenge.
The results? Well we’ll let the feedback speak for itself!
“Yes! Taking CaffAddict the same as previous weeks. Finally noticing more natural energy. Not as much craving for soda OR coffee…”
“…I found the challenge very inspiring and am continuing it with some of my Co workers. :)”
“It was a fun challenge!”
In total the company had 66 employees participate in the challenge. Of those 66, 42 responded to the challenge recap survey. 88% of respondents answered that they were either satisfied or extremely satisfied with the challenge, and 72% answered that they felt much better after participating. 67% of respondents plan to continue their new healthier habits that they created throughout this three week period.
Congratulations to all employees who participated. Health is a journey, and each step made contributes to your journey!
